The Memorial Hut Lodge was erected in 1950 in honour of Auckland Tramping Club members who gave their lives during World War 2.  The Hut has been upgraded over the years and provides warm and comfortable accommodation at Iwikau Village, Mt Ruapehu.  The Lodge ownership was transferred on September 1 2018 to the Central Plateau Schools Alpine Charitable Trust (formed by five local schools) to ensure this asset’s history and potential for accessing its amazing environment is preserved for generations to come.  Memorial Hut is a gateway to the wide range of experiences that the Tongariro National Park has to offer. For safety reasons, bookings must be for the entire Hut (not per room) with one group using the hut at any one time. You are responsible for your own food, cooking and cleaning the lodge on your departure. Booking preference will be given to stakeholder schools. Cleaning gear, cooking, crockery and cutlery are provided in the Hut. Rubbish and all food must be removed when you leave. Central Plateau Schools Alpine Charitable Trust
