Tohunga Tauwira Whare Ski Club (which translates as “Chief Builder of Houses” – the closest Maori translation for ‘architect’ that could be found), is a small family orientated ski club with a lodge located in the heart of Iwikau Village at the Top of the Bruce Road as well as a house at the Junction in Ohakune. The club’s facilities on Whakapapa ski field and in Ohakune are available year round for members to use, and provide a wonderful base from which to explore this extraordinary part of New Zealand. Naturally the winter months see the highest use of the facilities amongst club members, however this region is a haven from which to explore the inspiring and exhilarating landscape year round. From the Tongariro Alpine crossing, the ‘Bridge to Nowhere’, and National Cycle Trails – walking, trekking and mountain biking adventures abound. Tauwira Ski Club
